I LOVE this:
I haven't paid attention to "American Idol" since the first or second season. It seemed like a very cynical affair to me, an overhyped, over-promoted opportunity for commercial tie-ins and product placement. Oh, and some singing. Nevermind that, with the exception of Kelly Clarkson, none of them have ever put out an album actually worth listening to.
What's wonderful about Susan Boyle's debut on the Brit version of the show is how everyone -- everyone -- writes her off. She's old, she's frumpy, she's got a cheeky sense of humor, and eyebrows like a runaway caterpillar. Everyone in the audience, all the judges on the panel, all the hosts and crew saw her as a chance to score some cheap laughs. Scroll ahead to the 1:20 minute mark and catch the reaction of the young woman rolling her eyes. Everyone was ready to laugh at Susan and then forget about her.
Except for one little thing:
SHE CAN SING!
Not kinda/sorta sing. Not parlor-room good. Really effing good!
This is what these types of reality shows should be all about: Actually taking nobodies and giving them their shot. If "American Idol" were actually like this, I would watch it religiously.

I watched it three more times last night and several more times today. There's so many little moments I love. Just before she starts singing, she gives this little smile that says, "I know something you don't."

Ms Boyle, I want to thank you for sharing your lovely voice with the world. When you came onto the stage you came out as a strong beautiful woman with a kindness showing in your eyes. I could not wait until you were given your chance to sing. When I heard the first few notes I got goose bumbs then tears in my eyes as you sang. You are truly a beautiful and gifted person. I hope you get recorded soon. I keep looking for a chance to own a copy.

I would like somebody who knows her to tell her that I would like to buy as many albums by her as she is willing to make. I would love for her to come to Los Angeles so that I could hear her in person. My 12 yr old daughter wants to hear her in person as well.
Can anybody imagine if this lady did a Christmas album?
What about all the patriotic songs?
What about all the folk songs?
What if a song writer created new songs just for her?
Waiting to hear more from her. I would like somebody to pass this along to her.

This lady's voice is the avenue for her inner beauty. WOW! She sings like an angel and inspires everyone. Finally, there is a person who sings effortlessly without screaming! She deserves a chance to make CD's.

Susan Boyle is interesting because she knocked on the door of the hollow media world in order to get in and when she was in and the lock was turned and she was presumed trapped and exploitable it seemed she all the time had a key to get out again and rejoin genuine humanity. The key, of course, is her tremendous voice.

ReplyDeleteIt's not "England idol" it's Britains got talent. And maybe you weren't aware, but England is not Britain. England is part of Britain. Britain is 4 countries, Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
